Digital Divide

The digital divide was a term I have never heard before, of course I make fun of my parents or grandparents for being sub par with technology or signing into apps but I had no clue how big the divide was. 31 million adults do not have access internet, in 2021 that is unacceptable. Our world marches to the beat of technology and adults not being able to access it has to be fixed. Towns like Chattanooga, Tennessee are doing the right things, they have a city wide, free internet deal. The people that live in Chattanooga pay an extra fee when they pay their utilities for the internet but there are is no hassle with trying to find a company to install your internet, or get them to come back when it goes out, instead the city of Chattanooga goes to one house to fix the problem. According to a Ted talk speaker named YoungMoo Kim, the digital divide is too big to bridge and the damage has already been done, but personally I believe that the divide can be bridged and internet will be everywhere 24/7 in the future.

It is strange to me how big the divide is, it seems the American people have had a good amount of time to figure out the technology and the internet crises but we still have Americans who do not have access to the internet and there are still people who use out dated phones becaue they simply can not figure out how a smart phone works. I believe not every person is going to welcome the technology but the world needs technology to make it a better place.
